Kristi takes an integrative approach to therapy which incorporates her experience and training in Attachment Theory, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family
Systems (IFS), Child-Centered Play Therapy, Filial Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Mindfulness practices.
Kristi is a trauma-informed therapist who enjoys working with clients to process and resolve issues related to adverse family of origin experiences. She finds it is essential when working with her clients to develop a therapeutic partnership by first meeting them where they are at, and then working collaboratively through the process of healing.
When working with couples, Kristi utilizes the research and theories developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman to facilitate reconnection and strengthen communication. She is looking forward to receiving training in 2019 from Terry Real in order to practice Relational Life Therapy with couples.
Kristi is passionate the utilization of play therapy to assist children/adolescents, individuals, couples, and families with expressing emotions, developing communication and social skills, processing trauma, and problem solving. Kristi is currently working toward becoming a Registered Play Therapist (RPT).
Kristi graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Alaska, Anchorage in 2014, and her Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Alaska Pacific University in 2017. Kristi has worked in the mental health field in Alaska since 2014. In addition to her work with Coastal Wellness and Counseling, LLC, Kristi provides therapy to children and families as a Clinician at Denali Family Services.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor, Kristi is able to bill most major health insurances, though Medicaid/Medicare, and Tricare are not accepted.
