Michael Gray is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and began his career in mental health in 2020 after graduating from the University of Alaska, Anchorage with a Master of Social Work degree. Michael’s route to finding his passion for helping others was non-traditional, and began during his undergraduate studies at Iowa State University of Science and Technology where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture. His experience working with plant biology and health helped Michael recognize the relational and holistic nature of the world and how even the smallest systems are interconnected.
Michael is a compassionate mental health clinician with experience supporting teens and families navigating trauma, transition, and complex behavioral health needs. He is skilled in providing comprehensive assessments and developing trauma-informed treatment plans for adolescent individual and family therapy. Michael’s creativity was especially evident during his time as a Therapeutic Dungeon Master, when he built and led Dungeons & Dragons therapy groups that helped teens explore identity, practice emotional skills, and experience social success in a supportive environment.
Michael has also served as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor with the Veteran Benefits Administration, helping veterans with service-connected disabilities navigate the programs that are available to them for employment and wellness support. He was honored to connect veterans with the necessary resources they need to move forward in their careers and develop improved quality of life.
Michael provides counseling for adolescents, adults, couples, and families. He enjoys working with his clients on improving their relationship with themselves and those they care about. His therapeutic approach focuses on identifying strengths and learning new ways of working towards overall health and wellness.
Michael’s clinical interventions include Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Attachment Regulation and Competency (ARC), Motivational Interviewing, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and play therapy. He is continuing to grow his skillset with The Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Relational Life Therapy (RLT). He seeks to provide individualized care by building trusting relationships through a collaborative and creative approach.
